Hospital Adventure #2

Last Tuesday I went to my regular doctor's appointment. (I'm finally at the point where I get to go every single week. Weird.) Everything is going really well, which is great. The baby has turned, so her head is right where she needs to be. I'm measuring exactly right (36 centimeters). And I was 80% effaced and dilated to 1 cm. (The doctor said that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I could still go awhile before I'm in labor, but since I'm already dilating, chances are I won't go past my due date, which is great news!) But the one not so good thing was that my blood pressure was really high. Like really really high. It worried my doctor because high blood pressure can be a symptom of preeclampsia. If you do have preeclampsia, the only way to get rid of it is to have the baby. The doctor wanted me to have some tests run to find out if I had preeclampsia, so on to the hospital J.J. and I went...again.

They hooked me up to the same monitors as last time. One monitors the baby's heartbeat, the other monitors contractions. They took my blood pressure every 5 to 10 minutes and also did some blood work and a urine test. Eventually my blood pressure went down to a more normal range, which is good. The blood tests they did checked my platelet levels (which were great) and my liver (also fine).

So luckily it turns out everything was pretty much good. I did have to do this silly 24 hour urine collection thing. I had to collect all my urine for 24 hours and then take it back to the hospital lab for them to run tests on. It's more accurate than just taking tests on one sample of urine. And on Friday I have to go back to the hospital again to do a non-stress test.

Oh and my doctor put me on "modified bedrest," which is way better than actual bedrest. I just have to make sure to take it easy, but at least I'm not stuck in bed all the time!

Anyway, that's part one of this most recent adventure for the day. It's pretty ironic because after our last prenatal class a couple weeks ago, I said, "Hey, we probably won't be back at the hospital again until the baby is born!" I guess I jinxed it. ;)
